Argo and block are among the first buyers of Intel’s new blockchain accelerators, only days after Nvidia decided to launch a new blockchain accelerator so let’s read further today in our latest blockchain news.
Intel decided to enter the blockchain race after competitor Nvidia released a graphic card for ETH miners in February 2021. Intel plans to release blockchain accelerators later this year and has lined up some other companies lined up for buying according to the blog post by Raja M, Koduri who is the senior vice president of the company.
Among the first customers for the accelerators which help facilitate energy-efficient crypto mining are Argo and Block as well as Griid Infrastructure. Koduri who is also the general manager of the chip maker’s Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics but didn’t go into too many technical details. However, Intel announced the formation of the custom Compute Group within AXG in order to build custom silicon platforms that are optimized for customers’ workloads including blockchain and other custom accelerated opportunities at the edge.

Intel’s AXG unit is not the only graphics hardware specialist that works on mining technology. Driven by the popularity of the company’s graphic drivers that are used in crypto mining rigs but Nvidia also released a graphic card for ETH miners last year, dubbed as the Nvidia CMP cryptocurrency Mining Processor. In the first three months of the release, Nvidia made $155 million from CMP cards and CEO Jensen Huang said that:
“CMP yields better, and producing those doesn’t take away from the supply of GeForce. So it protects supply for the gamers.”
A lot of gamers often face hardware shortages as the miners snap up certain graphic cards and Nvidia announced that it will cut the hash power of the graphic cards in order to help them be stocked up.
As recently reported, Raja Koduri who is the senior vice president of accelerated computing systems and graphics group at Intel noted that their intent to contribute to the development of blockchain technologies will start with the introduction of energy-efficient mining accelerators which will be released this year. Intel already announced that it will unveil the next generation of Application-specific integrated Circuit mining machines during the next International Solid-State Circuits Conferences later this month.
