Royal Philips and Masimo have expanded their collaboration to advance patient monitoring capabilities in home telehealth applications with the W1 advanced health-tracking watch from Masimo.

Under the expanded partnership, Masimo’s W1 watch will be integrated with the enterprise patient monitoring ecosystem of Philips to advance telehealth and telemonitoring.

Philips stated that the combined innovation will make use of monitoring, connectivity and automation expertise from the two firms.

Masimo W1 is claimed to be the first watch that provides continuous, precise pulse oximetry measurements along with other useful health information.

It can use Masimo’s secure health data cloud to transmit patient data to the Philips patient monitoring ecosystem for remote clinician surveillance.

The company stated that key health indicators can be continuously and remotely monitored by healthcare providers while patients move throughout their homes and perform their everyday activities.

Doctors will be able to discharge patients earlier, as their vital signs will be monitored through Masimo W1 and their physiological status tracked through Philips dashboards.

This will allow providers to spot potential patient deterioration early and make more informed interventions.

Philips added that this combination of monitoring and connectivity technologies will create chances to assist early discharge initiatives, hospital-at-home programmes, and management of chronic illnesses.

Philips Hospital Patient Monitoring general manager Christoph Pedain said: “At Philips, we believe in an open ecosystem of information that enables physicians in their daily routine, allows for them to access and process vital patient information and deploy a wide range of measurements and patient-worn technologies.

“Our integration of the latest Masimo technologies is a testament to that strategy and we are delighted to deepen our relationship with Masimo.”
