Boris Johnson calls on new Labour party leader Keir Starmer to work together on the coronavirus crisis

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on the new Labour party leader Keir Starmer to work alongside him on the coronavirus crisis.

In a letter posted in advance of Starmer’s victory on Saturday, April 4, Johnson said he wanted all opposition parties to meet with him to discuss the government’s response to the pandemic.

Following his victory Starmer promised to work constructively with the government on the issue.

However, Johnson on Friday said that he continued to suffer from a temperature so would remain in his Downing Street residence beyond the recommended 7-day isolation period.

He also warned Brits against leaving the house during this weekend’s warm weather.

A further 684 people in the UK have died after testing positive for the coronavirus, the Department of Health announced on Friday, April 3, taking the country’s death toll to 3,605. 

The UK now has 38,168 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus.

The Health Secretary Matt Hancock also indicated on Friday that the government expects the coronavirus pandemic to peak in the UK by Easter Sunday, with thousands of daily deaths.
