Jacob deGrom to Undergo Tommy John Surgery

Texas Rangers starting pitcher, Jacob deGrom is officially receiving a major surgery after tearing his UCL. deGrom is undergoing Tommy John surgery, which will end his season early. The surgery will reportedly take place next week. This decision comes after an MRI revealed that his UCL tear was not healing.

Rangers beat writer for the Dallas Morning News, Evan Grant, reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday evening.

deGrom began his MLB career with the New York Mets back in 2014. With the Mets he made four All-Star teams, two All-MLB first teams, won the Cy Young Award twice and was named National League Rookie of the Year. 2023 is his first year as a Texas Ranger. He signed a five-year, $185 million deal with the team in December of 2022.

He’s appeared in just six games this season, starting every one of those. In just 30.1 innings, he’s earned an ERA of 2.67 and gone 2-0. deGrom hasn’t pitched more than 92 total innings since 2019, when he pitched over 200 innings. He won the Cy Young that season (his second consecutive).
