Strain Review – Purple Candy Cane – By Mendo Dope

The sweet scent of peppermint and oranges tingle the nostrils when smelling this beautiful flower. Breeder Mark of Greenshock Farms created this complex hybrid in 2015 combining a variety of unique strains. It all started with a very special pheno of Lavender and Bubba Kush.

From there it was then crossed with a Blue Moonshine Agent Orange plant and finally mixed with a Blue Dream Hawaiian Haze male to create what is known as Purple Candy Cane.

This sativa dominant strain hits you fast with a comfortable head high and an overwhelming feeling of happiness. This exotic strain has a beautiful look from the purple stalks to the colourful resin glands. Strong flavour, intense aroma and high levels of cannabinoids bring this strain to the top shelf. This is the type of dank that any connoisseur would enjoy.

My first experience with Purple Candy Cane was like walking through a pine forest on Christmas morning chewing on a piece of ribbon candy. This wasn’t your normal weed; this was Green Dope. The blending of genetics used to create this strain was a true work of art. Combining terpene profiles from all across the chart made this strain very appealing. I have always been a big fan of both Bubba Kush and Lavender so right away I was intrigued with the lineage.

In addition, the compliments of Agent Orange and Blue Moonshine expanded the terpene profile bringing this strain further out of the box. With this amazing creation taking form it was then pollinated with a male Blue Dream Hawaiian Haze to complete the final transformation. “We have always grown out a lot of strains every year and only kept the really good ones that worked out well” – Mark. Purple Candy Cane was one of the winners that seemed to grow perfectly and produce some serious flowers. First time I saw the Purple Candy Cane I was extremely impressed by the looks. Grown outdoors under full sun these flowers glistened like a golden nugget and had perfect structure. The buds were surprisingly big for being a sativa dominant strain and the resin production was immaculate. For me the icing on the cake was the smell.

A delicious mixture of fruit and peppermint candy canes filled my nose as I opened the jar. Inhaling the smooth smoke from these perfectly cured flowers was the cherry on top. Harvested the previous year these buds still looked and tasted so fresh. The flavour was unique and very powerful. A blanket of terpenes covered the taste buds and lingered on the tip of my tongue. My mouth was watering.

In 2015 when Mark first created this strain he knew that he had something special to show off. The name was actually created due to the purple color of the stalk which had the look of an actual purple candy cane. Along with the scent that reminded him of Christmas the name seemed to fi t perfectly. Entering into what is known as the Grammys of Cannabis the Emerald Cup, Greenshock farms took a 3rd place in the flower category. The following year Purple Candy Cane went on to place 2nd place for the overall flower category and was now a top contender.

In 2018 myself and brother Bleezy were able to team up with Greenshock Farms and collaborate on a legal grow which was very exciting. After enjoying numerous strains that Mark created, we couldn’t wait to see them grow, especially the Purple Candy Cane. With the strong mould resistant properties inherited from the Blue Dream and Hawaiian Haze this strain is very resilient and ready to withstand the harsh conditions of outdoor growing. Potency is carried on with the Bubba Kush while unique flavours are enhanced by the Agent Orange and Blue Moonshine. We had the chance to work with three different phenos of the Purple Candy Cane one the Green Dope Project and all of them were impressive. One of these phenos was very sativa dominant with long skinny buds and layers upon layers of gooey resin.

The other two phenos were similar but each had something unique to offer. Purple Candy Cane #67 was one of the original phenos. This particular plant had an amazing purple color that gradually surrounded the flowers as they matured. Thick colorful trichome heads were covering the flowers as if you rolled a Caramel apple in a bowl of fruity pebbles. The third pheno had amazing bud structure with oversized crystals and thick pods forming gorgeous spear shaped colas. This one was one of my favourite plants in the entire garden. The smell, looks, quality and amount of resin on this pheno made it an all-round winner across the board. The growth on these plants was impressive, they seemed to form perfect wide canopies with little training.

Each pheno produced big yields and all of the buds were perfectly spaced out allowing light to penetrate the lower branches. Pristine top-quality flowers were visible from top to bottom. “Purple Candy Cane reminds me of being in Northern California during a summer thunderstorm with the breeze blowing through a sage juniper pine forest”-Mark. Smooth undertones of oranges and peppermint, flowers completely soaked in resin and great bud structure put this strain in my top 10 favourites to smoke.

With test results coming in at 21% THC and terpene levels at 2.9% the potency and flavor was on point. Due to the high levels of Myrcene this strain hits you hard penetrating the brain blood barrier. “This is a fast sativa head high that we call storyteller sometimes because it makes people tell old forgotten stories as soon as they smoke it”-Mark. This strain is great for creativity and is very anti depressive bringing you to a higher level of consciousness while uplifting your spirits. Not only medically benefi cial but this strain is so full of flavor I found myself rolling blunt after blunting just for the taste. I would definitely recommend this strain to any weed snob/connoisseur. It’s all about flavor these days but we also want to feel it, Purple Candy Cane delivers on both ends. Because of its extremely powerful scent and flavor as well as the beautiful bud structure and looks this is a new keeper for the personal stash no doubt.
