Xilinx Adds “Power Surge” for Huawei’s New Data Center Servers

Our strong momentum in the data center and with China’s leading server vendors continues with Huawei‘s recent announcement of its FusionServer Pro series servers, the new intelligent servers, in Beijing on April 3. Huawei’s FX600/FX300 acceleration cards, powered by Xilinx UltraScale+ FPGA, were introduced as the key intelligent acceleration components to provide application acceleration across the new FusionServer Pro series servers.

The new FusionServer Pro servers represent Huawei’s transition from traditional servers to more intelligent servers that address how data centers accelerate critical applications with a compute “power surge” for applications such as AI, gene sequencing, video coding, image processing, data compression, and network processing. These servers provide intelligent Xilinx FPGA-based acceleration engines for offloading and upgrading of compute, storage, and network protocols, which can effectively improve the business experience, reduce operating costs, and improve return on investment.

Due to the unpredictability of compute workloads and growing complexity of AI algorithms used in modern data centers, Huawei has found that fixed GPU and ASIC solutions are unable to keep pace. Our adaptable, high-performance hardware acceleration capabilities enable Huawei’s next-generation servers to deliver computing power and large bandwidth data connections for various types of hardware acceleration services, while supporting all kinds of data center workloads with the best power-performance ratio.

We’ve been collaborating with Huawei since 2017 on many exciting projects, including supporting Huawei’s FPGAs-as-a-service (FaaS) business. Together we’ve delivered an unprecedented experience for many innovators to develop, deploy, publish and deliver a wide range of new intelligent applications on Huawei public cloud or offline. Among our joint projects have been:

  • Supporting the 2nd National Undergraduate Integrated Circuit Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and providing FPGA-accelerated cloud service platform and technical support;
  • Enabling China’s first broadcast-level, real-time streaming media solutions based on FPGA on Cloud and making NGCodec H.265 standard available on Huawei Cloud;
  • Organizing the “FPGA Artificial Intelligence Forum” across multiple cities in China and hands-on Huawei Cloud Service Lab for developers at Xilinx XDF.

Stay tuned for more exciting news from our collaboration with Huawei as we continue to work together to target the fast-growing data center marketing with adaptable, high-performance hardware acceleration solutions. The skies the limit!
